Livestock are excluded from woodland, water margins and unimproved meadow pasture under a Scottish government Rural Stewardship Scheme (RSS). For information see our Environment page. Birdwatchers will be interested to learn about the Red Kites recently re-introduced to the area. A recent survey by the RSPB identified 40 species of birds on the farm including 13 of conservation interest. While staying at Airds, guests will find the Thistle public house convenient for inexpensive bar meals and a friendly atmosphere. Both towns have many places of interest to visit The lands of Airds in Crossmichael are mentioned in records as far back as the 15th century, & the existing farmhouse dates to the early 1800s.
