Archaeology

A few interesting finds have been made at the farm. Recent excavations for a land drain uncovered a couple of Victorian stone ginger beer bottles, both marked with the maker's name.

Victorian stone ginger beer bottles

The bottle by Carruthers was made between 1905 & 1915, and details of the firm that produced the ginger beer can be found at http://www.davehiddleston.com/Robert%20Carruthers.htm    The date of the one by David Newall is not known but is probably of the same era as the two were found together.   Despite nearly a century buried underground, both bottles are in excellent condition and can be seen by guests on request.
