Airds Farmhouse
The Farmhouse

The guest lounge at Airds Farm is comfortable and spacious with a 28" wide-screen TV (Freeview channels). The room has been preserved in the style of the 1950s - 60s with a feature fireplace of the period. Central heating for off-season bookings is supplemented by an electric fire should extra warmth be required.
Unique furniture

The farmhouse of Airds is furnished with many items of interest, including family pieces such as this carved hallstand dated 1919. Made by Alan's great grandfather, Alfred Edward Gregory, a teacher at St Georges school at Harpenden at the time, the piece is unusual in the fact that the tools used to carve the detail have also survived.
Interesting clocks

We have a huge collection of interesting clocks at Airds. Many of them formerly owned by Ted Gregory, Alan's uncle, who resided with us until he passed away aged 93. Ted was a clock repairer in later life and had acquired a number of clocks such as the longcase clock above. The case, however, in not original, but was made in recent years by a fine craftsman, Henry Smith (now also sadly passed away) Tricia's uncle.
Above is a 9" wall clock originally supplied to the GPO in the reign of George V. The clock is in excellent condition, though not usually wound due to its location above the stairwell. A number of the clocks within the house bear the GPO logo and it is not a coincidence that your host Alan was once an engineer for the GPO.
