Disused railway viaduct over loch Ken

About 4 miles northwest of Crossmichael the loch is spanned by the disused railway viadust formerly serving what was originally the Portpatrick Railway. Known as the "Paddy Line" as it connected with the steam ferry to Ireland, the line opened in the 1860's and survived for 100 years, steam hauled to the end, before falling a victim to Dr Beeching's axe. The bowstring viaduct remains as a monument to the glories of the steam age.
